Raymond Scott breathed fresh life into what looked to be on paper, a limiting art form, Big-Band. The muted horn and the dreamlike Celeste, permeate Scott's music. These are signature Scott. To me, the tunes are bittersweet. Each starting off upbeat and lighthearted, and quickly descending into what seems, to my untrained ear, like a minor chord progression, filled with pathos. Dave Harris, a onetime member of Scott's orchestra, is pretty straightforward here. He stays true to Raymond Scott's quirky vision. Harris takes advantage of the technology and produces a Stereophonic delight. It's a clean and well thought out recording. The mix is stellar. One of my favorite records.
